Everything that is created using tradeskills comes from raw
materials in one form or another. Iron Ore and Animal Hides are examples of
Raw Materials. These materials cannot usually be made into anything useful
by themselves but they can be refined into Iron Ingots and Leather Squares
which are a very common component in making weapons and armor. These refined
items are often referred to as "components". These components do not
necessarily go into making another item, sometimes they are sold as is. Gems
and Gold can be sold as "goods", however Gems and Gold can be made into
glittering necklaces which would yield a much greater profit or taken to a
Wizard who can enchant the necklace into a magic item which would further
increase its value.
Every type of component below has a difficulty rating
associated with it. This is the difficulty applied against your skill when
working with that component on a particular step in the crafting process.
Raw Metals
Raw metals are usually found in mines scattered across the World of Torr.
All these metals are excavated from a mine as Ore. The ore must be smelted
at a forge using Mining skill and the appropriate craft to be made into
usable Ingots. The only exception is Laen glass which does not need to be
refined:
NOTE: The difficulty to (mine the ore / smelt the ore / use the
ingot when crafting) are in parentheses.
 Ore
(Difficulty varies):
All Metals (except Laen) come from a mine as Ore. They all look almost the
same until this ore is refined at a forge using the appropriate tools and
crafts at which time they become Ingots shown below.
Iron ( +50
/ +45 / +30 ) 10g / 20g: Standard iron ore is one of the most common elements in the
earth and thus is one of the few elements that is found in more than place
in the World of Torr but is mainly found in the mines near Torr City. Strong and easy to work with, Iron can be made into
almost any weapon or armor type imaginable as well as various tools and
other items.
Titanium
( +40 / +25 / +10 ) 15g / 70g: A whitish metal which is stronger than steel yet weighs
almost half as much Titanium is more suited for armor than it is for
weapons but it's greatest use is when it is combined with other materials to
form alloys with properties much more appropriate for specific uses. There
is a Titanium mine just outside the Elven city of Holindale
Copper
( +75 / +70 / +55 ) 10g / 20g: Easy to extract and refine, Copper is often worked into
Bronze for jewelry and tools. It is also an excellent conductor of heat and is sometimes used to make some highly exotic weapons and
armor. Copper can be found in the mines just outside Torr City.
Silver
( +40 / +55 / +40 ) 40g / 80g: A bright and lustrous element, Silver is used in many forms
of jewelry. Silver makes a great conductor, especially for magic and is sometimes used in the fabrication of magic items or
combined with other elements to make fabulous alloys. It also holds positive
energy against undead and shapechangers. Jehlom village is built around a
large Silver Mine.
Gold (+35
/ +50 / +30) 50g / 180g: Incredibly prized for its rarity and beauty, gold has always
been held in high value by all races. It is also somewhat resistant to magic
and has become a universally accepted currency across all the races of the
world. There is a gold mine somewhere deep in the center of the Duhari
Desert.
Laen (
+20 / * / -10 ) 240g: Laen is an extremely hard volcanic glass which can be forged
into incredibly keen almost indestructible weapons. It's strength comes from
it's incredibly long crystal lattice structure. It also has the bizarre
property of gaining rigidity and stiffness with heat. Only by cooling Laen
to incredibly low temperatures using magical cold forges does it become soft
enough to work with. Laen is also a popular medium for magical devices such
as enchanted lenses and jewels. Laen is found in its pure form, there is no
refinement required. Weapons made with Laen have a dull reddish or black yet
translucent appearance. Laen can be found in the Magma Caves, The Drider
Fortress and sometimes in lairs deep inside mountainous regions.
Mithril
( +10 / +35 / +5 ) 75g / 250g: Pure Mithril is malleable silver-white metal which does not
tarnish and alloys with other elements to make enchanted metals. Dwarves
value Mithril above all else and often make weapons using it but it's true value lies in the fantastic
alloys like Eog and Galvorn that can be made from it. Mithril is only found
in the Mithril Mines at the center of the Dwarven City of Mogar.
Angilian
( -25 / +0 / -10 ) 100g / 500g: Also known as "Dwarven Star-Iron", this element is not
found anywhere in the world, there is no Angilian Mine anywhere. Angilian is
found in meteorites that occasionally strike in the Dwarven mountains of Mogar (hence
the nickname). It is difficult
to get a large quantity of the stuff unless you happen to be in the right place at the right time (i.e. In Mogar
Mountains with a pickaxe during a meteor strike). Angilian is extremely solid and strong when worked. The surface has a
dull-gray almost black appearance and it is believed to have unknown arcane properties
inherit in it. It is often made into powerful Dwarven weapons. Angilian is also
the
key component to make the alloy Galvorn which is the strongest metal known, unfortunately the dwarves do not
possess the knowledge on how this alloy is made.
Metal Alloys
Alloys are not mined, they are made by combining other metals ingots
together to form a new alloyed ingot. It usually takes 2 or 3 metal ingots
to create one alloyed ingot. Alloys can then be used just like metal ingots
to make more impressive kinds of weapons, armor and other items.
NOTE: The difficulty to (use the ingot when crafting) are
in parentheses.
Steel
( +10 ) 50g: While not technically an alloy, steel can be made from working
iron at specific temperatures and thus trapping carbon inside of it. Steel is
much stronger than iron but takes more effort to manufacture. Usually worth
the cost however, steel makes for very efficient weapons and armor and is by far the
most common alloy created.
Ithilnaur
( +0 ) 200g: "Moon-Fire" is a favorite alloy of the Elves made from
Silver and Titanium combined at a very high heat. It looks like beautifully
pure silver and it is fabulously strong. When hammered and folded it can
make weapons that hold a very keen edge and remain somewhat flexible.
Perfect for weapons and armor. Ithilnaur can also hold magic extremely
well and is often used in Elven magical amulets and rings of impressive power.
Eog (
-30 ) 540g: Eog is one of the rarest metals. It is made from Mithril and
Gold. Eog requires both hot and cold forging of an intensity necessitating
magical furnaces. The finished alloy is both strong and tough
and is second only to Galvorn in weapon and armor making potential.
Eog holds a bright golden tint to it.
Kregora
( +5 ) 850g: This substance is an extremely rare alloy of Angilian and Gold
and has a scintillating rainbow coloration about it. Kregora is
incredibly ductile and malleable, while this makes it useless for weapons,
it has a phenomenally powerful anti-magic property to it. Special
non-magical tools are usually required to work with this material. Needless
to say, anything made with Kregora cannot be enchanted with magical
properties. On the contrary, Kregora usually makes items that resist or
dispel magic by mere proximity.
Galvorn
( -70 ) 1400g: The rarest metal in the world. Galvorn is impossibly strong yet malleable
and resists cuts and punctures, the ultimate armor material. Alloyed from Angilian, Mithril and Gold it becomes the strongest substance known
and the most difficult to work with.
Extremely hot forges and tough smithing tools are necessary to work with
this material effectively. The secrets of how to alloy Galvorn together in the first
place is known by very few however. Those who do know its secret guard the valuable knowledge with lethal
determination.
Plants and Herbs
Plants and Herbs are used primarily for the creation of potions using
Alchemy. They are often found in the forests and woods but some are found in
the deserts or high in the mountains as well. Specific plants tend to grow
only in certain parts of the world. It takes no special skill to search for
these plants, only a keen eye and knowing where to look for them. When found you can expect to get 2-5 doses worth.
NOTE: The difficulty to (use the plant when crafting) are in
parentheses.
Silverberry
( +30 ) 20g: A small silvery colored berry which is know for its
healing properties. It can be consumed raw for a lesser effect but when
distilled and combined with other reagents it can become a potent
potion. Silverberry can found in the forests.
Spurryfoot ( +30 )
20g:
A small shrub, native freshwater shorelines. It has fleshy, light green,
palmate leaves; pale pink, five-pedaled flowers; and small pink berries. The
edible leaves contain a stimulant that can increase mental clarity.
Garig ( +20 )
30g:
A desert barrel cactus with a dark green body, red thorns which grow in
quartets, large flowers with brilliant scarlet petals and yellow stamens,
and green fruit. The interior pulp is edible, although extremely sour, and
contains a powerful stimulant that temporarily increases strength.
Edram ( +15
) 50g:
An enchanted, bluish green moss native to warm, sheltered areas inside of
swamps. It is edible (but very bitter).
Himros
( +20 ) 70g:
Fire/Heat resistance. It has a cluster of fleshy, dark green leaves with
three yellow stripes and rows of tooth like thorns along each edge, which
can reach 24" long. This plant is found in forest regions.
Red Willow
( +15 ) 80g:
So named because its leaves turn bright red in the autumn (those of most
other willows turn yellow), this willow is native to cool, temperate stream
banks and wetlands. The Red Willow is know to reduce fevers and purge
disease.
Olvar ( +10 )
90g:
A small thick-stalked violet flower which is found in snowy mountainous
regions with volcanic rich soil. It roots grow deep and is sometimes
difficult to pull out of the ground (like a potato in winter). If ingested
it can relieve frostbite and provide mild cold resistance but it can be
processed with other reagents to yield potions with a wide range of effects.
Harfy ( +5
) 100g:
A dark gray-green barrel cactus native to arid desert regions. It usually
grows about 15" tall and wide; it has 2" thorns, bright red 3" flowers with
yellow centers, and delicious dark red fruit. The fruit is known to have a
stimulating affect on the mind but can cause nausea if eaten directly. When
processed into a potion however the side-effects are removed and the potency
increased.
Ucason
( +0 ) 120g:
An enchanted grass native to temperate ocean shores, usually found growing
on dunes. When crushed and dried, its very dark green and yellow leaves may
be smoked like tobacco; the euphoric smoke cures blindness. When processed
with other reagents it can remove a number of ailments.
Woods
Wood is often used in making arrows, shields and even weapon shafts and
handles. It is also a primary component in making siege equipment. Wood does
not need to be refined in order to be used in crafting, the preparation
steps using wood takes care of that. This also means that there are no
special crafts associated with refining the different kinds of woods like
metals have. Wood is simply "mined" or bought as needed. There are only a
few different kinds of wood that are used in the World of Torr (we realize
there are hundreds in actuality) with a couple of enchanted woods (Durst and
Entioch) that are used to make more powerful items.
NOTE: All wood is at difficulty +50 to "mine" from trees.
The difficulty to (use the wood when crafting) are in parentheses.
  |
Oak
( +30 ) 10g: Oak is strong and durable. Weapon shafts and arrows
typically use Oak as a wood of choice, it is also used for handles on
certain types of weapons instead of leather. Oak can found in almost any
forest or woodland towards the south end of the world. |
|
|
|
  |
Maple
( +45 ) 10g: Maple is lightly colored, finishes well and can bend. It is often
used in things like instruments, furniture and is a secondary components in
making bows. It can be found in almost any wooded area. |
|
|
|
  |
Yew
( +10 ) 20g: A very strong yet bendable wood primarily used in bow-making and
siege equipment. Yew can only be found in the forests near the Elven kingdom
of Holindale |
|
|
|
  |
Durst
(Ironwood) ( -10 ) 50g: This dark almost metallic colored wood is incredibly rigid and
strong, almost like iron (hence the name). It is difficult to work with
because of it strength, often dulling axes and saw blades when worked with.
Durst is only found in the northern forests of Igmar but often shares the
area with hostile animals. |
|
|
|
  |
Entioch
( -45 ) 200g: Entioch comes from very ancient trees which grow very slowly and
are known to have enchanted qualities about them. Not only is Entioch
wonderfully strong and beautiful, when treated with oils correctly it can be
made flexible as well making it useful for almost any item. Entioch is very
hard to come by. It grows deep in the forests near the Elven kingdom of
Holindale, however, the elves treat this wood as sacred and can only be used
is rare circumstances under elaborate ceremonies. Even the area in which it
grows is not allowed to be entered by anyone, especially outsiders. Rumor
has it that Entioch also grows in the Black Forest near Kalmoor but few
people dare explore that forest and even fewer return. |
Leather
Leathers are used primarily in armor and somewhat in making weapon handles.
Almost every armor type, even plate mail uses leather to some extent. There
are only a few animals that will "drop" animal hides upon their death and in
varying amounts. The leather itself is made from refining the different
animal hides using the appropriate. Leatherworking Tools
NOTE: The difficulty to use ( Animal Hides / Leather Squares)
when crafting are in parentheses.
  |
Animal
Leather
( +40 / +20 ) 10g / 20g: Normal leather can be found on Deer, big cats, and wolves.
Leather is used in almost all forms of armor to some extent as a padding and
buffer to the metal parts of a suit. Leather is also used in various
Itemcrafting skills. |
| |
|
  |
Worg
Leather
( +5 / +0 ) 20g / 40g: The hides of Worgs are typically stronger and have slight magical
properties to them. It is only used in making certain armor type that use
leather almost exclusively (padded, leather, hide, studded) and has a dark,
almost black appearance to it. |
| |
|
  |
Fendhorn
Leather
( -10 / -30 ) 60g / 100g: Fendhorns are rare and elusive white deer that are occasionally
seen in the forests of Berrymuck. They don't have any single locale where
they can be located reliably. Seeing a Fendhorn is attributed to luck and
catching one is considered even luckier. Leather armors made from Fendhorn
hides have magical properties to them and have a slight aura to them. |
Gems
Gemstones are typically found in mines across the world. They are mined much
like ore is mined but instead of being smelted and refine using Mining
skill, they are cut and polished from their Uncut state using Itemcrafting
skills. The various different gems contain various different properties.
They are typically used in making magical jewelry, wands, staves and also to
empower weapons and armor with a Gem Tool found in stores.
NOTE: The difficulty to use (Gems / Uncut Stones)
when crafting are in parentheses. The prices listed is for normal quality
gem.
 |
Gem Tool
25g: This simple tool is sold by most trainers and can also be found in
Miscellaneous stores. It allows you to place a gem into a weapon. Doing so
will destroy the gem but offer it's powers to the weapon for a length of
time, usually from 15-30 minutes depending on the gems quality (resting will
remove this power). To implant a gem into a weapon, use the gem tool on the
gem you want to implant in your inventory, then use the gem tool again on
the weapon you want to empower. Only cut gems can be used, not uncut ones.
Small weapons can only have one gem power active, medium weapons can have 2
and large two handed weapons can have up to 3 powers at once. |
| |
|
 |
Fire Agate ( +60 / +50 ) 13g:
Fire agate forms in thin brown layers that refract the incoming light,
giving the gem its "fire." The refraction often forms patterns reminiscent
of a dragon's scales, which makes it prized by sorcerers who claim to trace
their lineage back to dragonkin. A well-cut stone has its outer layers
polished and ground away until only the fire is visible.

 |
Aventurine ( +35 / +50 ) 27g: When cut and polished, aventurine is
alluring as its name. It resembles misty quartz, but contains glistening
flecks of green that give it a unique sheen. Witches are said to use
aventurine for invocations, evocations, and spirit work.

 |
Malachite ( +50 / +00 ) 21g:
Favored by druids for its graceful and natural beauty, malachite is known
for its strikingly ornamental bands of light and dark green that alternate
throughout the entire stone. Painters have also been known to crush the gem
and use it as a pigment. Adventurers have discovered that the gem bubbles
and dissolves readily in acid, making it an effective - if expensive - means
of identifying certain dangerous substances.

 |
Fluorspar( +30 / +20 ) 70g:
A common but beautiful gem, fluorspar comes in many colors - each of them
nicely set off by the stones' glassy luster. Best known in its purple hues,
which are commonly mistaken for amethyst, fluorspar is the much softer of
the two and will scratch, chip, and even burn easily.

Phenalope ( +45 / +50 ) 28g:
A singularly beautiful stone, Phenalope is dusty pink in color, dramatically
marked with black streaks. Even when mounted in jewelry, Phenalope maintains
a rough texture, pocked with tiny holes that cannot be polished out. For
some, this is part of the stone's attraction, and they wear it as a symbol
of their own tenacious natures.

Alexandrite ( +30 / +20 ) 218g: One of the world's rarest and most
coveted gems, alexandrite takes on a brilliant green hue when under indirect
sunlight but turns blood-red when exposed to candlelight. Loretellers claim
that all alexandrite comes from the body of the oldest son of Silvanus, the
Forest Father. A common nursery rhyme goes "Silvanus' wife went mad one
night, murdering her child by candlelight.".

Amethyst ( +40 / +30 ) 58g:
The most valued amethyst crystals are a milky, wine-dark purple. Some say
that the original Amethyst was a young priestess favored by both Sune and
Selune. The two goddesses fought over the girl and, in their folly,
destroyed her. A single glance from Selune turned the girl into moonlight,
all silver and transparent. As the struggle continued, a goblet of wine fell
from Selune's feasting table, splashing onto Amethyst and granting her the
gemstone's characteristic purple hue.

Garnet ( +30 / +20 ) 180g:
Often called the "Poor Man's Ruby," the common garnet is nevertheless a
distinct and attractive blood-red gem in its own right. The violet form,
also called rhodolite, is the rarest, most prized, and most valuable form of
the stone.
- Empowers weapons with OnHit Daze, DC increases with quality
- Empowers armor with Regeneration from +1 to +7 per round depending on
quality.
|
| |
|
 |
Topaz ( +25 / +5 ) 470g:
Best known in its pale, orange-yellow form, topaz is an attractive gem that
appears in well-formed, multifaceted crystals. These crystals can reach an
incredible size, and specimens weighing several hundred pounds are not
unknown. The largest stones are customarily reserved for gifts on state
occasions, and only the greatest master gemcutters are allowed to work them.
- Empowers weapons with OnHit Stun, DC increases with quality
- Empowers armor with Negative Energy Damage Resist from 5 to 20
depending on quality.
|
| |
|
 |
Sapphire ( +20 / -5) 810g:
The blue sapphire is twin to the more precious ruby in all respects but
color. In most stones, the sparkling blue color must be brought out by
exposure to great heat. Once "cooked," the color change is permanent and
does not otherwise affect the much-treasured durability of the gem.
- Empowers
weapons with Lightning Damage from +1 to +1d8 damage depending on
quality.
- Empowers
armor with Lightning Damage Resist from 5 to 20 depending on quality.
|
| |
|
 |
Fire Opal ( +20 / +10 ) 1165g:
Unlike their more common cousin, fire opals are full of vibrant hues: hot
yellows, oranges, and reds so bright they almost cast their own light. Some
believe that these gems derive their glow from a supernatural source, and
not a few sages have claimed that each gem is a tiny portal to the Elemental
Plane of Fire. However, scholars claim it is just the way the gem refracts
the light around it.
- Empowers weapons with Fire Damage from +1 to +1d8
depending on quality
- Empowers armor with Fire Damage Resist from 5 to 20 depending on

|
 |
Diamond ( +00 / -30 ) 1735g: This transparent crystal is the hardest
substance found in nature. The most valued color is a clear bluish-white;
most lesser stones are clear white or off-white, but other less valued color
varieties are known, among them mauve, pink, peach, and chartreuse. Due to
its hardness, the gem is always faceted rather than polished.
- Empowers weapons with Attack bonus from +3 to +10 depending on
quality.
- Empowers armor with AC bonus from +3 to +10 depending on quality.
|
| |
|
 |
Ruby ( +20 / -15 ) 2500g: Bright and beautiful, the ruby is famous
for its clear and bloody hue. To some it is the gem of love, to others the
gem of revenge. To all it is unquestionably precious, and the largest, most
flawless specimens are more highly prized than diamonds. The goddess Sune is
said to sometimes wear rubies in her wild hair.
- Empowers weapons with Massive Critical Bonus from +6 to +12 damage
depending on quality.
- Empowers armor with Regeneration from +8 to +12 depending on quality.
|
| |
|
 |
Emerald ( +10 / -10 ) 3300g: Prized for their vibrant green color,
emeralds are fragile and need to be protected from the impacts and extreme
temperature changes common to adventuring life. It is a highly prized gem by
the wealthy and royalty alike.
- Empowers weapons with Enhancement Bonus from +1 to +7 depending on
quality.
- Empowers armor with Spell Resistance from +20 to +32 depending on
quality.
