Player Guide

Getting Started:   HakPaks  |   Player Guide  |  World Map

This page is a quick guide to getting started in the World Of Torr. There have been many changes to the normal game that you should be aware of before making a character and blindly running through the world. What is listed below are very quick and short descriptions of some of the custom features of this game world. For more detailed descriptions refer to the specific sections on the website.

Creating Your Character

Since many things concerning characters have been altered in the game you may want to consider the following changes before making your character on World Of Torr. One of the most important is that you can only have one character at a time. It is important that you know what you are getting into when you build your character and what classes/skills/feats you take when you level up.

  1. You can only have ONE character at a time. Once you enter the game and the Planar Boatman NPC transports you to the world, you are not allowed to come in with a different character besides that one. However you are allowed to "trade-in" your character and re-make one for a price. Trading in your current character is done at a cost of 50% of your characters current XP but the remaining 50% will be given to the next character you bring in. This allows you to immediately level up and rebuild a character without starting from scratch.  This can only be done when you reach at least level 5 with your character. (this feature is currently under construction)
  2. There is an XP penalty for ALL Multi-Classing. If your character has multiple classes they will have a penalty to any XP received from monster kills or quest rewards (other forms of XP, like crafting or exploration, are not penalized). If you have 2 different classes on your character the penalty is 25% less XP. If you have 3 classes on your character the penalty is 40% less XP. There is no way to avoid this penalty. Taking levels in "Recommended Classes" for your race  or keeping your classes within 1 level of each other as per normal game rules DOES NOT apply here. Prestige classes count just like any other class would and will incur the same penalties.
  3. Some Feats And Skills are Unused or Altered. There are several skills and feats that are not used at all or act differently then you would except from the normal game, please consider this before choosing them:
    • Bioware crafting skills and feats are NOT used in World Of Torr. We are using a custom system and have disabled these feats and skills but we cannot prevent a player from choosing them upon creating there character. There is an NPC that will warn you of unused skills/feats before you enter the world and "lock" your character. Do not ever choose the following feats or skills:
      • Brew Potion
      • Scribe Scroll
      • Craft Trap
      • Craft Armor
      • Craft Weapon
      • Craft item
    • Certain skills are used differently than normally expected. Some are used very infrequently but that may change as more content is added to the game. Notable skills are as follows:
      • Healing: There are custom healing kits in the game and the healing skill is used in an almost identical way. However, there is no resting allowed in most dungeons and healing potions have a reduced effect  when taken repeatedly in a short time making healing skill very valuable. Also, healing kits and skill can be used on fallen players to revive them without needing to resort to Resurrection or Raise Dead Spells.
      • Appraise: World Of Torr has an elaborate custom merchant system. There are different buy and sell rates for every type of store in every kingdom. the Appraise skill is automatically used when opening a merchant to adjust there rates in your favor. The amount adjusted depends on your skill and how far apart a merchants buy and sell rates currently are. This is automatic, there is no skill check done.
      • Search: This skill is used to detect secret doors and chests that are often inside of dungeons.
      • Intimidate: Currently not used for anything but may be including into the law system and quests.
      • Bluff: Currently not used for anything but may be including into the law system and quests.
      • Persuade: Currently not used for anything but may be including into the law system and quests.
      • Spot/Listen: True Seeing Spells DO NOT automatically detect stealthed targets in World Of Torr although some monsters have TRUE True Seeing ability which does. You will usually require a Spot check to detect stealthed players, you can also damage them which automatically reveals them  even if under the effect of invisibility.
      • Lore: used to identify items as normal. This skill MAY also be used in some quests are as a multiplier for quest XP.
  4. Special Skill Points. World of Torr uses a custom skill system for crafting skill sand some other special skills like Faith and Leadership. You get 3 of these secondary points per level regardless of your attributes or class. These points are spent on the skill themselves or on specific "Crafts" (Like "Longswords", "Splint Mail"). You need to speak with an appropriate trainer to spend your first point in these skills, after that you can increase your skills buy using an item in your inventory called the "Players Handbook". Points don't have to be spent and can be saved from level to level if desired.

Playing Your Character

There are certain things you should be aware of on the World of Torr when it comes to the day to day play of your character. Things like hunger, fatigue and item decay are important aspect of the World of Torr.  Many "laws" are also enforced by the cities you'll be exploring and they are enforced via the code, not live DMs. Recklessly disregarding them will drastically affect your game experience, which could be good or bad.

  1. Your Players Handbook. In your inventory you have an item called "Players Handbook" this undroppable item is used to activate many features of the game world including your special skills. It is highly recommended you flip through the pages in that item to familiarize your self with them.
  2. You must eat or DIE. Over time (10-15 mins) your character will get hungry. If you become very hungry your Strength and Constitution will be affected and if left alone you will eventually die of starvation. You start off with some trial rations to eat, simply activate them to use anytime. You can also buy food at any inn in any city from one of the bartenders stores. Food can also be hunted for on animals like deer. Using there meat on the ground will make cooked food that you can click on and eat.
  3. Fatigue and Rest are not the same. In addition to food, your character will slowly become fatigued, giving you warnings when you are getting tired. You will take Constitution penalties is left unchecked but it will never kill you. Resting DOES NOT recover fatigue in fact, resting will advance time on your character automatically increasing your hunger and fatigue. In order to relive fatigue you must "Sleep" somewhere. You can sleep at any inn, up in a bed OR you can use a Bedroll out in the wild.
  4. Equipped Items Wear Out. All equipped items in the game (except ammunition) slowly wear out and are destroyed. World of Torr keeps track of an items current decay by using the "Charges" field. When the charges on your item hit 0 it will fall apart. Simply walking around town with your weapons out will slowly wear the weapons down. When you are in combat, the rate of decay is drastically increased. Also bashing in doors wears out weapons incredibly fast.
  5. Calling For Guards and The Law. The guards respond to criminal acts they witness. picking pockets, breaking into homes,  killing people, running through town naked etc are crimes and will issue a warrant for your arrest. After the guards beat  you down they will take you to prison for 1 minute and then transport you to a public trial. Other players may bear witness to your trial and vote on your guilt or innocence. Verdicts range anywhere from innocence to Execution and Exile. If a player attacks you in any way, you must say "GUARDS" for the guards to respond to your attacker. It is recommended that you make a Text Macro to yell "GUARDS". You are warned however, that if you strike someone back after they strike you (usually automatic) then you BOTH will be arrested. Also, if you attack and kill a wanted player in the town in which he is wanted, it is no crime, in fact you will get rewarded for Bounty Hunting if you can take down a player running from the law. There is a permanent prestige score on your character when it comes to crimes, don't commit crimes repeatedly or you will face grievous penalties by the law
  6. Inns and Taverns are Bind Points. Every kingdom has at least one Inn or Tavern. upon entering that Inn, you're character will immediately be set to respawn in that kingdom when you die. You don't actually respawn inside of the Inns, you usually respawn at a local temple or other divine location with in the kingdom. When you are in an Inn, you get hungry and tired VERY slowly and your items wear out VERY slowly, this is also true if you are in a home or other living area. If you need to go afk for a while, you should park your character at those places
  7. The roads are safe! The wild is not.  Players are encouraged to travel on the roads to visit the other kingdoms and not feel they need to stay in the one they start in. The roads are generally safe and free of monsters except the occasional bandits who will take some of your money. The general rule is, the farther away from the roads you travel, the more dangerous the monsters and dungeons become. As long as you stay near the roads you shouldn't be attacked at all. If you are looking for adventure however, be sure to explore the 4 corners of the area you are in, Every corner of every area usually has a point of interest, a dungeon, or a monster encounter in it.
  8. Beware of Exiled Players! Full PvP is enforced on this server and there are players who have become Exiled for being murderous and criminal. If you see an Exiled player or hear of one in the vicinity, beware for they will not only be hostile to you but if you die to them you will LOSE XP which they will gain (and vice versa). Exiles vs. non-Exiles in the basis for the PvP conflict on this server. There is currently no honor system or penalty for hi level players killing newbie ones, until there is one in place expect some wholesale griefing!
  9. Merchant Stores and changing prices. When you speak to a merchant in town, they will ask you which store you are interested in (weapons, armor, potions etc). The two numbers next to each store name is the percentage rate (100 is the normal price for items) that the stores pay when they buy and sell items to you. However the economy system in the game reacts to what is bought and sold so the rates will change a lot. If you don't find a certain weapon or item in one town, go to another, items are randomly bought and sold to the stores and every kingdom has a different set of "popular" items depending on where they are (lots of Mithril in the Dwarven city for example) You could make money buy "buying low and selling high" even between towns. Most trainers and some NPCs have "static" stores that always have the same items, these stores DO have multiple tabs that you can click to see all their inventory in different categories but their prices are very high and they don't buy anything. For more info see the  Merchants section and Economy and Trade.
