There are 8 Kingdoms in The World of Torr. Each kingdom typically has one
big city area with a castle, jail, shops etc as well as 1 or 2 rural areas
adjacent or nearly adjacent to it which usually contain several farms and
additional housing (See Owning Property). Each
kingdom has it's own look and feel as well as unique natural resources which
form the basis of its economy (See Economy and
Trade). All kingdoms have guards who patrol the areas the kingdom
controls and enforce the law (See The Law). The following is a description of the kingdoms in the World of Torr
as well as some interesting places within them.
Torr
Torr is the largest and most powerful of the "good" kingdoms. It
lies at the southern most part of the continent and enjoys good weather,
bountiful harvests and generally well-mannered population. Out in the Torr
Countryside there lies a Mine which has veins of both Iron and Copper running
through it.
Torr Countryside: North of the walled Torr City lies the rural
countryside which several farms and lower housing can be found. The northwest
side of this area contains the city's graveyard perched up on a hillside. The
expansive crypt which lies beneath the graveyard is home to an endless supply
of restless spirits from centuries past. There is also a Copper and Iron Mine
in the countryside where would be miners and craftsman can put their skills to
good (and profitable ) use.
Jehlom Village: This village is found northwest of Torr on the other
side of Aeirmith Valley. Jehlom lies at the foothills of the crags that lead up
through the mountains to the north. of it. The village has many young people
who have fun at the nearby Lake of Largas. Being somewhat isolated from a large
population, Jehlom occasionally has problems with Bugbears from the Crags to
the west. There is a silver mine in Jehlom which is it's primary export apart
from rare woods.
Urik
Urik is similar to Torr is strength and the two kingdoms are the
strongest of allies. Urik is home to the Kalgorian Blademaster Academy and
because of this, the greatest swordsman in the world hail from this kingdom,
Urik sits in a bay under the Withertop Mountains
Withertop Village: Northwest of Urik, just inside the snowy
mountains of Withertop lies a small village of the same name. The village is
built out on a small man-made island to gain greater access to the fish that
are abundant in the area. The village is quite peaceful, however, just
to the north up high in the mountains dwell Withertop Dragons. These smaller
yet dangerous dragons rarely (but sometimes) come near the village and cause
plenty of panic. They
mostly keep to their roosts up north and prey on foolhardy miners who try to
plunder the sapphire mine found in an Ice Cavern in the area. Some have returned with
impressive gems of value but most are torn to shreds by Greater Withertop dragons or the 3 or 4
dragons which perch up near their lairs and swoop down on unwary
trespassers.
Igmar
Igmar sits in the middle of a wide range of woods towards the east side of
the continent. While not the most wealthy of kingdoms, Igmar boasts a large
population and a brutal military. The people of Igmar are usually of the large
and boisterous sort and are usually quite good-hearted folk. The woods around
Igmar contain some very strong and rare types of woods which are used in making
some of the most powerful siege engines available.
Igmar is somewhat
isolated politically and it tends to keep to its own business. This is especially
true when
it comes to the Elven kingdom of Holindale who share the adjoining forest
across the river to
the east. The two kingdoms share opposing views on everything from lifestyles
to politics and even the brewing of alcohols and generally avoid each other
whenever possible. However when faced with attacks from the Orcs of Rug'Lak to the
south, the two kingdoms tolerate each others differences and become strong
allies against their common enemy during those conflicts.
Igmar High Road: There is a road which runs from the south of Igmar
down to the Swamps of Sish. This road is elevated up on a thin plateau which
acts as a defensive wall and border to the Orc dominated forest of Rug'Lak.
There is one vulnerable section in the south area of the road which slopes down
in to the forest which is almost constantly under attack by raiding Orcs. Even
though this section is heavily defended by the Igmar Military, there have been
instances where the Orcs have broken through and attacked Igmar itself.
Durstwood Harpies: Just west of Igmar in the woods lies one of the few known places
where Durstwood grows. Unfortunately it is also the lair of Durstwood Harpies which dwell there and
they don't take kindly to anyone coming near those trees.
Igmar Hunting Grounds: Just south of the city on east side of the High Road is a section
of the woods known as the Hunting grounds. The area contains mostly small animals and bears which
less experienced heroes (or hungry ones) can be found testing their skills. Deep within those woods
dwells a legendary Dire Bear know as Bathseeba. Some exceptionally brave Igmarians test their
bravery by attempting to get struck by the beast once and then flee. Some succeed and show off
their scars, some get maimed, but most get eaten.
Mogar
Far into the mountains to the northwest of the continent and deep below the
ground lies the Dwarven city of Mogar. Keeping to themselves the dwarves mine
the only source of Mithril found in the world in a mine underneath the center
of the city. They do however interact with the small rural town of humans and
other races which is found just outside the cave that leads to Mogar.
Mogar Mountains: The mountains around Mogar are snow-driven and
somewhat hostile. They are home to various animals and few other monsters that
adventurers seldom live to tell about. These mountains are also the place
where occasional meteor strikes that contain Angilian ore are known to happen.
This is the only source of that rare mineral to be found in Torr and the
dwarves are often found combing the mountains after a meteor strike searching
for even a spec of that impressive metal.
Holindale
Deep in the woods East of Igmar lies the Elven kingdom of Holindale. Typical of Elven places,
Holindale is a beautiful and noble city built near the oceanside. The kingdom is a major producer
of Ithilnaur which is an alloy of Titanium and Silver. Ithilnaur is used in almost all Elven
weaponry and jewelry. Holindale also is one of the only places where the wood Entioch can be found
(under construction)
Titanium Mine: Just south of Holindale, in the wooded area past the statues, is a
road which leads to the Titanium mine. This half-forested mine usually contains Wisps in addition
to the titanium veins found within it. Luckily it is a short run to the city for safety.
Berrymuck
Berrymuck is by far the smallest of the kingdoms and is populated almost
entirely by Halflings. Found as a large village in a forest just north of
Torr, Berrymuck is often a stopping point for travelers between Torr and Igmar. The halflings are
also know to serve up a tasty ale!
Berrymuck Forest: All around Berrymuck is a forest which contains many strange creatures.
From Worgs to Goblins to Ogres, Spiders and Trolls. There are even undead lurking deep within the
woods. The wise Halfling would do well to stay on the roads and not stop for very long
either.
Pixie Grove: West of Berrymuck village and right before the bridge there is an entrance
to a pixie grove. Very few have even been inside the grove as the pixies will only allow Druids to
enter it. It is said that a powerful forest spirit can be found there.
Abrightis
Abrightis is an ancient city that lies on the edge of the Duhari Desert.
Abrightis is the first line of defense for the rest of humanity against the
attacking hordes of Doomsha to the north. Due to common raids by unholy
minions, Abrightis become home to a large population of Paladins and Clerics
who find seemingly never-ending work there. The Temple of the Sun which
worships the deity Brightis can be found in this city.
Doomsha
Doomsha is an incredibly unholy kingdom. It is where all the darkness
congregates, it is the chapel of death and destruction, the core of evil
and is the origin of every foul thing in the World of Torr. Needless to say,
you don't want to go near the place! For all it's frightening presence
however, there has never been a confirmed death in Doomsha, because no one
has EVER returned! The borders to Doomsha are lined with the impaled corpses
of all who have ever been past the gates of the fortress. There have been
numerous raids into Doomsha to cleanse the evil there but they have always
failed. In addition to the questionably human defenders, there are hordes of
dragons and demons that defend the fortress and they not know to take
prisoners. No one really knows who or what rules over Doomsha, not even the Exiles who call it
home.
