Item Decay

The server supports an item decay feature, as in your items you have will slowly wear out and be destroyed. Item durability is NOT part of the normal game of Neverwinter Nights, there is no field in the game or section of your items that support a durability rating so one had to be improvised by using your items "Item Charges" setting. Item Charges are normally used for wands and magic items but since they are rarely ever used for any other type of item, they are being used to track durability on your equipped gear. What has been implemented is a "workaround" that is simple effective an not easily exploitable.

Items that you have equipped and are NOT Arrows, Bolts, Bullets are subject to a slow rate of decay. Items in your inventory are safe. When you acquire a new item which is affected by item decay (i.e. anything that can be equipped that isn't ammunition) those items will not have and "Item Charges" displayed anywhere in their description, but will eventually show "Item Charges: 50" if they are equipped for a short amount of time. This number represents the decay of that item, when it hits zero that item will fall apart and be destroyed.

The rate of decay on items is somewhat random but in general an item you have equipped will last approximately 30 hours of real time if you never engage in any combat. When you are in combat however, the rate of decay of your equipped items is drastically increased! If you were to engage in unending combat, your equipped items will last on average of 2-3 hours. Items in your inventory are not subject to decay and of course nothing is affected unless you are in game with your character.

Bashing doors with your weapon causes a durability "check" on every hit. You can really wear a weapon out quickly when bashing on a door try to use something else instead. Currently this implementation affects creature weapons also as an oversight but it might remain in place. You can actually wear the claws off your pet if you bash a door all day.

Items can also be destroyed when you get killed in combat (See Death and Respawn)

It is important to realize that if you are worried about having your expensive armor and weapons wearing out quickly then don't wear them all the time! You should consider placing your weapons on the quick bar and disarm them when not in a dangerous place. You should also consider finding "Normal" clothing or cheaper armor to wear when exploring, tradeskilling or wandering around town. You should also not bring incredibly overpowered items to a fight with kobolds! If you own property, or know someone that does,  your pricey items can be placed various vaults and chests for safe keeping until you need them for more dangerous adventures.

Repairing Items

Any wearable items can be repaired when using the appropriate tools and an Anvil. Repairing items uses the appropriate skill, the same skill it takes to create them, but there is no Repair Craft that needs to be learned as anyone can attempt to repair items. Repairing items cost a small amount of money based on the value of the item as well as how low the durability currently is. Simply use the appropriate tools on the item in your inventory to bring up a conversation for repairs.

Repairing an item will bring the durability back to maximum but will always lower the quality of the item by one level also. Greater successes on repairs will return portions of the costs back to you but tragic failures can result in more than one level of quality loss or even the destruction of the item entirely. Flawed Items cannot be repaired as they are already at the lowest quality, they will be used up until destroyed.

Not all items can be repaired, only items with a quality level can be repaired.  Virtually any wearable item that can be crafted can be repaired.
