Hunger and Fatigue provide a fun and not overbearing way to
make sleeping in homes, spending some time visiting taverns and hunting a
more "useful" activity then solely for the role-play value of it. You have
a hunger Score and a Fatigue Score that is being kept track of at all times.
Hunger is self explanatory, you need to eat once in a while. Fatigue
however refers to lack of "Sleep" and not the same thing as when you
"Rest". When you rest normally, you are considered to be sitting down and
taking break for a while, mending wounds and recovering spells. "Sleep" is
something you have to do every day or feel the effects of exhaustion, this
is what your "Fatigue" score is keeping track off.
Hunger and Fatigue is based off of time, every 4 hours of
game time (8 mins real time) will increase your hunger and fatigue scores
by one. However, when you rest normally, your hunger and fatigue
automatically go up by one. Resting is considered to take several hours and
thus essentially accelerates time forward on your character. You are
assumed to require one small meal or snack every 4 hours to stay "normal"
if you miss a couple of meals (i.e. rest a couple of times or spend 15 mins
or so in the game) you're hunger will start to bother you and you will be
notified. Fatigue will start to bother you after what is technically 40
hours of game time or about 10 "Rests" in a row. hunger if left alone will
eventually start to affect your stats and if left along long enough can
kill you , Fatigue if left unchecked will not kill you but reduce your
character to a state of exhaustion where he won't be very effective.
To relieve Hunger you can simply eat Trail Rations or meals
you have bought at a local merchant or at an Inn. You can also hunt deer
and use "Meat" on the ground to create a campfire that you and your friends
can eat from. Eating from campfires will provoke your character to rest
almost immediately by this can be avoided by performing some other action
right away (like moving or eating another serving from the fire)
Fatigue can only be relived when you rest on or near a "Bed"
of some kind. Doing so will make your character "Sleep" during the rest and
have his fatigue score set back down. Higher quality beds will set your
fatigue score closer to zero (which means you can adventure longer before
needing to sleep again) while low quality beds such as Bedrolls or slum
Inns will bring you down to about a a score of 5. Bedrolls are essentially
portable "Beds" that when used automatically make you rest and Sleep, they
usually have several charges and can also be found at local merchants
selling Miscellaneous goods as well as Innkeepers who sell them.
