The
only strict rule on the server is to not blatantly annoy the hell out of
players who are trying to have fun in a way different then you!
This is not a hardcore role-playing server but role-playing to a reasonable
extent is encouraged, this is also not a hardcore power gaming server but
almost everything was designed with power gaming in mind. We don't dictate "how to play" or force players
to do or act in certain ways, players are free to have fun with the system
however they like provided they are respecting the other players and not crashing the server
on purpose. We do however enforce a "common sense
courtesy" when it comes to the other "kids on the playground". Not everyone
enjoys playing a persistent world in the same way you do so try not to force others into
your idea of fun. If the other people you are "playing with" are getting
upset because of what you are doing, leave them alone and go somewhere else.
There is no laid out set of rules to break before asked to leave the server
or getting banned, it simply takes legitimate complaints from other players
and your refusal to "play nice" when we ask you to. You're are not paying us
to play here, this is a privately owned server put up for OUR enjoyment and
there's absolutely no reason we need to tolerate anyone who's causing us
or anyone else grief, it's is simple as that. There are a few basics you
should be aware of however:
Roleplay Chatting: This is a casual Roleplay server, it is
borderline "PW Story". You are encouraged to speak in at least a moderately
in-character way but we do not enforce strict in character speaking. No one
is going to get banned because they are speaking normally or not using "//"
or "OOC". We do however enforce normal and mature speaking especially in
public chat. If you want to Roleplay, go ahead and Roleplay. If others aren't
responding in character, don't force them to and vice-versa. In general if
you are confronted with Role-players in chat, you have to make sure to least
talk normal and mature. If you need to talk "freely" take it private
or keep it within the group chat if you are sure that everyone else isn't
role-playing. In general, if we hear "kiddie talk" in an open chat (i.e.
"Shut the &%$#! up you &%$#! loser! I hAXor-raped your &%#!@ noob ass with my
L33t skilz! ") we're going to take you off without a warning.
Killing and Stealing: Pick pocketing or killing other players is allowed
on this server. Breaking the law and getting arrested is part of the
game and a lot of code has been written to handle criminal behavior in a
role-playing way and make it enjoyable. Attacking NPCs in town, kidnapping small children or mindlessly
butchering farm animals is also NOT frowned upon by the DMs as the law
system should respond to those sorts of things also. Players are
free to do whatever their character are inclined to do even if it's
hideously evil and/or against other
players. Evil characters will eventually be Exiled by the law system where
they can essentially become a "Bag Guy" in the game world. We have designed the world to react to this sort of behavior
appropriately (guards react to this sort of thing and your alignment and
criminal status is affected) but it is in no way prevented by the DMs.
If you get attacked you can say "GUARDS" and the Guards will chase down and arrest
your attacker (See The Law).
If you discover some sort of exploit or easy abuse involving this however,
we expect you to mention it in the appropriate forum as an exploit! We want to keep this
sort of thing fun, challenging and balanced.
Abusing an Exploit: We've tried to cover every situation we can think
of when it comes to exploiting the game whether that be getting around the
law system, griefing players without penalty or finding an easy way to make
a lot of XP or money. However we're sure there are plenty of ways to still
accomplish those things. Players are expected to say something when they
find a way to "Get around" the law system or have discovered an easy way to
make money or XP without any challenge. If you are doing something
repeatedly that is obviously an exploit we'll have no choice but to delete
the character and try to hunt down and repair the damage you've done. If you
only do it once or twice before saying something you'll probably be
rewarded. We do actually follow suspected players around a lot to see what
they are doing. Usually allowing them to exploit for a long time before we
act on it.
Hacking the Server: Just so there isn't any misunderstanding, doing
something that crashes the server is NOT acceptable behavior. No XP rewards
are given out for bringing the server down. In fact it will earn you really
big blotches on your permanent record if you do so. Not only is it annoying for us,
but it generally ticks off all the players also. Please don't knock the
server down, we know you're an Uber Hacker and no one can stop you, even
though my little sister and her "My Little Pony" friends can download the same hacks and do it
also. If you find a way to reliably
exploit or bring down the server AND YOU ONLY DO IT ONCE OR TWICE please
send us an email at dm@worldoftorr.com
or mention it in the forums (please no details!). If we can correct the
problem or bug with your help then we will gladly offer you some sort of
compensation in game (i.e. Your own castle, An artifact sword with your name
on it, XP and riches beyond your wildest dreams etc). If you are able to
exploit the game world than it is most likely our responsibility to correct
it. This is our world and we don't blame BioWare when we don't script
something right.
